TAILORED SUIT IN BANGKOK

BANGKOK COULD BE THE PERFECT PLACE

Looking to jazz up your wardrobe with some custom-made suits, shirts, and trousers? Bangkok could be the perfect place. There are plenty of experienced tailors around who can create garments for you for a small portion of what you’d pay back home. Do you have a specific Italian suit you’d like to duplicate? Bring along some pictures and perhaps a fabric sample. You can browse catalogs, sample garments, and more to create your ideal suit.

Although there are certainly some great shops in the city, there are also tailors that would be better to avoid. This is particularly true of tourist-centric tailors who cut corners and try to delay delivery until you’re leaving the country so you haven’t got the time to complain. It’s important that you inform yourself about tailored garments in Bangkok so you can leave with an incredible suit that you’re happy with.

TAILOR

It isn’t easy to choose a great tailor, especially in a foreign country. If you’ve got some experience dealing with tailored garments, you may be able to go around from shop to shop assessing the quality. If you don’t, you may not learn much from shopping around. It’s important to remember not to make a decision based only on the deals posted outside a tailor’s shop. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Cheap “one day only” deals advertised on a shabby piece of paper often yield garments made of poor quality fabric and shoddy craftsmanship. Don’t pay any attention to recommendations from people with vested interest in a shop as well – chances are they don’t have your best interests at heart.

PRICE

Although prices are generally cheaper than what you’d get in the West, the amount you’ll pay will vary greatly. The experience and skill of a tailor as well as the material you choose will be taken into consideration. The labor of a two-piece suit will usually set you back between 5,000 and 6,000 baht. Materials usually cost around 3,000 to 5,000. If you want top-tier material, however, you could be paying up to 20,000 baht. When choosing the material for your suit, remember that Thailand specializes in silk. If you want a silk suit, a local fabric could be a good choice. When it comes to other materials, however, opt for English or Italian imported fabric. You could even bring the fabric of your choice from home to cut down on costs.

TIME

Time is of the essence, especially when you’re only going to be in the country for a few days. Make time for at least two fittings for your suit. The majority of tailors will require a minimum of three days for a suit, although some will have you wait over a week. It’s important for you to give as much detail as you can early on to spare corrections later. You’ve got to specify whether you want a single or double-breasted jacket, how many buttons you want, whether you want a narrow or a wide lapel, and even the number of vents in the back of the jacket. If you aren’t quite sure, feel free to consult the tailor. They’ll be able to give you useful advice depending on your figure and your use of the suit.

Be a little picky with your suit. You want to end up with a suit that meets your expectations. After all, isn’t that what custom-tailored garments are all about?
